To get your license, you need to send a completed application to the Contractors State License Board (CSLB) proving your experience. Then you take two exams by computer at a state testing site, one on your trade and one on the law. We help you do both, successfully!
At North Coast Builders Exchange, we are committed to empowering the construction industry through exceptional member services, strong advocacy, and robust workforce development initiatives. As part of these efforts, we’re excited to offer our Contractors License Courses, designed to support your journey toward a successful career in contracting. Our program provides thorough study courses, personalized guidance, and professional resources to help set a strong foundation for your future.
If you’ve spent at least four of the last ten years in a building trade—as a journeyman, foreman, supervisor, or self-employed tradesperson—we can guide you in applying for a state contractor's license in your area. Apprenticeships, technical training, relevant military experience, and construction-related college courses also contribute toward the required four years.
With up-to-date study materials, online practice tests, and dedicated staff, we’re here to help you succeed on your exams and beyond.
NCBE can also help you after you pass your exams. We can provide you with access to group medical insurance, worker compensation insurance, connect you with experienced attorneys for legal advice, and provide proven local referrals for payroll, accounting, and bonding.
Lectures are held on Monday nights from 6:30 pm to 8:00 pm, at our offices at 1030 Apollo Way, Santa Rosa, CA.
Lectures are given by our construction attorney on contractor's license law, mechanic's lien law, law of contracts, employment law, and accounting (financial statements). They repeat every five weeks. If you enroll in our Classroom Course, you can attend as many lectures as you like, until you understand the material completely. We recommend attending two series of lectures (ten lectures total), to hear each topic twice.
